Date: 2007-03-29 12:02 am (UTC)I clickied back to the AFA's website, located the "fucking queers" story and used the opportunity to send an email to my congressman. Please, Lord, I hope it goes out under an AFA header, since by the time I got done composing, it had changed a bit from the suggested email. It has some of the same words, though. ;D
Dear Congressman,
I strongly urge you to support The Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act, better known as the “hate crimes” bill.
We need special laws designed to help better protect minority lifestyles. In a perfect world, people who choose to live lives that are not the lackadaisical Protestantism advocated by the majority should be able to count on being helped by those who advocate love, understanding and tolerance.
Unfortunately, in our current culture, it's most likely to be members of the Protestant majority who are causing the harm. Even just by saying nothing and letting hate go onward undeterred.
Should minority groups such as homosexuals, transgender persons, followers of smaller religions require special protection? No, if Christians really were Christian, no extra protection would be needed.
But since the first of the Lord's teachings that most Christians toss out with the garbage is "Love one another," we sadly DO need special protection.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Here's hoping someday so many Americans won't have to live in fear.

Date: 2007-03-31 12:18 am (UTC)I would like to thank you for posting the Chicago Gay Pride Video on your website. It cheered me up immensely on an otherwise very dull and rainy day - seeing a group of happy young people get together to enjoy themselves, dancing in the sun on a hot day was wonderful therapy. I've recommended it to all my friends.
If only the people in our cities could bond together this way and simply enjoy a piece of street theatre on a more regular basis, the world would be a much better and less violent place.
I wonder of either of us will ever get a reply?
