The WIPs meme - or how to depress myself because I have too many.

If you happen to be working on some creative writing project, fanfiction or NaNoWriMo or what have you, post exactly one sentence from each of your current work(s) in progress in your journal. It should probably be your favourite or most intriguing sentence so far, but what you choose is entirely your discretion. Mention the title (and genre) if you like, but don't mention anything else -- this is merely to whet the general appetite for your forthcoming work(s).



One sentence is mean. Sometimes it takes two to get the context, so I cheated. And I won't feel guilty, because everyone else has too.

The Trigun selection (excluding two that aren't currently much more than a few paragraphs):

“You’re asking me to stand and watch you die, Tongari.”

Vash had sucked on the fingers of his right hand once, and spent the next five minutes gagging over the nicotine.

"Look at that thing! It curves completely the wrong way!"

Vash looked at the handcuffs glinting harshly in the sunlight beside him, then over at Wolfwood.

If Wolfwood tried that again, they’d both end up on the floor. That didn’t automatically mean he wouldn’t.

DNAngel:

The smell of stale sweat and sex, the feel of the body beneath his casually outflung arm, told him everything he didn’t need to know.

Gundam Wing:

I spent the first half a day in school figuring out for sure that the guy I met on the ship wasn't 'Fuck! My leg hurts!' Heero, or even 'Fuck! My Gundam's screwed!' Heero. It was just the usual Heero with all his natural charm.

Yami no Matsuei:

The fingers had healed but the blood was still there, a dark, dried reminder that his sanity was unwinding once again.

Smallville:

Clark lies to everyone, as natural as he breathes, smiling and innocent and as false as the most expensive whore.

Even if I never got another plot eating at my brain, it'd still take me a couple of years to finish off what I've got right here. *Sigh*.

And Yami...oh, please finish this, I so want that story, even with that pairing (because the more I watch it, the more convinced I am by your reasonning :) )

this is why I just don't start stories I can't finish. WIPs are a burden on your heart, I'm convinced of that!

The Smallville one was supposed to be the (longer) sequel to those two ficlets I did. It was going to be the pay-off, only then I got RL, and then I got distracted, and....

The plot's the snag with the Yami one. There's just too much of it. The sex I could have got done a long time ago, but then I'm left looking at all that plot. And I think I might have made a mistake putting Oriya in there, much as I love the man. He just slows it down. Blergh.

I never started any of these intending not to finish them! Mostly they were going well until I hit RL, and by the time RL went away I'd found another fandom.

Sadly, thinking Oriya could never be a mistake was what got me into this tangle in the first place. I still haven't decided whether to persevere with him or excise him when I get back to this fic. Or just make his section much shorter than I'd intended. atm I think he's just stalling the plot....

Aw, man, I did -- kind of; I got going on it, anyway, and whoops, the angst popped up again -- but now it's 4.14 AM and I'm trying to write a presentation for tomorrow about the fall of the Ming dynasty, and ... d'you think it'd be all right to post fic after deadline by a few days? I'd rather post something decent, y'know, but I feel awful about not meeting the deadline when that was the whole point. :(

That's the one place begging definitely doesn't work. What gets written depends entirely on my brain, and it's not like I have much actual control over that. atm the handcuff porn's winning the race, though sadly 'hijinx' is probably not the term I'd use for it....

Sorry, I only have the one GW fic in me, and it remains unfinished. Part of the problem is that nasty plot thing that gets in the way of teh porn. It's at over 14000 words now, and if I ever finish it, it'll be the longest thing I've written. Which is one of the main reasons I haven't....

The combination of the curvature and the handcuffs has already been suggested, and sadly it just won't work. It'd make my life easier if I could find a way to squeeze two or more of these 'plots' into one, but they demand their individuality, damn them!
