Now I am sleepy....
Nov. 1st, 2004 07:13 pmYaoi-con was FANTASTIC!
As a con, it was the second most disorganised I've ever been to, but still managed to have some really great moments despite the multiple small (and few less small) annoyances. As an excuse to meet up with a bunch of fellow tasteful pervs like
tameiki1
nekojita
forsaken1973
mac_lynn
duet_chan
kendokat
moonriddler_mim and
hidden_hero, pimp each other our hot guys (and alcohol) of choice and purchase excessive quantities of fine pr0n, it would be damn hard to surpass.
On the subject of pimping, in that respect
hidden_hero should come with a warning stamped on her forehead, because she is dangerously good at it. All broke people should steer clear!
It will definitely be interesting to see if any results come out of the panel discussing a boys' love game aimed at the western market, but even if it never happens, the panel was fun and intriguing. Probably the most surprising thing about it was the high level of agreement between attendees regarding what we would want to see, with only a few points that a consensus wasn't quickly reached on.
San Fran was beautiful in warm and golden sunshine, unlike my current wet locale, and Hallowe'en in the Castro was a bizarre and fun (if horrendously crowded) costumed street party which definitely had to be seen. Extreme gratitude goes to
mac_lynn for tirelessly patient chauffering duties that allowed us to see the city rather than just the hotel.
The current plan is to be back next year, oh yeah, sleep deprivation and all....

Date: 2004-11-01 07:23 pm (UTC)I can't think of a better time than Halloween to have a con, because it doubly encourages the costuming. (got any pics? :D)
And eh, what's a little sleep deprivation compared to the fun of staying up till 2 AM looking at porn and talking geekdom with people you don't know all that well. ^_^

Not many, actually, for various reasons. I'm relying on

Date: 2004-11-01 11:51 pm (UTC)Yes. Yes, I'll be looking for a one-hour photo shop tomorrow to see if they can put it all on disks. Can't wait to see what I got! Think there's some REALLY good ones in there. *drools*

Date: 2004-11-02 05:57 am (UTC)Honestly, a con is the best place to have a digital camera. The only place you're likely to show off any of the pics is online, and then one doesn't have to go to the trouble of scanning it.

Date: 2004-11-01 09:27 pm (UTC)Not a valid excuse for the Yaoi-con messes. But given that we spent most of the time yacking away with each other instead of going to panels, it wasn't the biggest deal, to be honest.

Date: 2004-11-01 08:54 pm (UTC)I agree with your assessment of the con. For me it was *the* most disorganized one, but meeting all of you made it worthwhile.
*hugs* Glad you enjoyed the chauffeuring even with the wrong turns last night!

Hey, you got the important bits right, you found the gas station and the rest rooms when it mattered ;-) Seriously, the trip there was simple compared to what came after!

Date: 2004-11-02 10:18 am (UTC)We knew vaguely how to get back to the hotel, but not the specifics. I'm kind of used to the London Underground, which has big maps on every wall saying where the trains are going and showing the connections. This sadly does not seem to be the case in San Fran, which is even sadder when the metro staff you ask for directions tell you wrongly. Luckily, we figured it out before we actually got on the train, but only because no train came for a while.

Date: 2004-11-01 11:16 pm (UTC)You would not have been impressed by the Castro, dear, I can tell you that.
Oh, Seattle has some imperfect weather? Who'da thunk?
The weather's been so fantastic since April, I'm almost unused to the concept of it not being. You realise the two weeks you came were pretty much the suckiest we had in the last 6 months, don't you?

Date: 2004-11-02 10:01 am (UTC)Well, there was all of that - it's a question of whether you think it was compensated for by the crazy costumes and the gay guys. Some of the costumes were amazingly good, others just thoroughly indecent :-)

Date: 2004-11-02 10:06 am (UTC)Oh, I got good swag, oh yeah. I was kind of disappointed by the Trigun dj selection, sadly - it was all the same old that I already have or don't want. Back to ebay it is. But other stuff - damn, did I get the hot guys....

Date: 2004-11-02 09:47 pm (UTC)Anyway . . . am still in the SF area with Mim visiting friends. We ate more good Japanese food, went BACK to the Japanese bookstore and was tempted again and also got to see Alcatraz island. Tomorrow we go hiking in the redwoods and visit a winery. And will be ready to get home after a really hectic week.
Talk at cha soon - owari, Kat
