Yaoi-con was FANTASTIC!

As a con, it was the second most disorganised I've ever been to, but still managed to have some really great moments despite the multiple small (and few less small) annoyances. As an excuse to meet up with a bunch of fellow tasteful pervs like [livejournal.com profile] tameiki1 [livejournal.com profile] nekojita [livejournal.com profile] forsaken1973 [livejournal.com profile] mac_lynn [livejournal.com profile] duet_chan [livejournal.com profile] kendokat [livejournal.com profile] moonriddler_mim and [livejournal.com profile] hidden_hero, pimp each other our hot guys (and alcohol) of choice and purchase excessive quantities of fine pr0n, it would be damn hard to surpass.

On the subject of pimping, in that respect [livejournal.com profile] hidden_hero should come with a warning stamped on her forehead, because she is dangerously good at it. All broke people should steer clear!

It will definitely be interesting to see if any results come out of the panel discussing a boys' love game aimed at the western market, but even if it never happens, the panel was fun and intriguing. Probably the most surprising thing about it was the high level of agreement between attendees regarding what we would want to see, with only a few points that a consensus wasn't quickly reached on.

San Fran was beautiful in warm and golden sunshine, unlike my current wet locale, and Hallowe'en in the Castro was a bizarre and fun (if horrendously crowded) costumed street party which definitely had to be seen. Extreme gratitude goes to [livejournal.com profile] mac_lynn for tirelessly patient chauffering duties that allowed us to see the city rather than just the hotel.

The current plan is to be back next year, oh yeah, sleep deprivation and all....

Aren't cons just the shit?

I can't think of a better time than Halloween to have a con, because it doubly encourages the costuming. (got any pics? :D)

And eh, what's a little sleep deprivation compared to the fun of staying up till 2 AM looking at porn and talking geekdom with people you don't know all that well. ^_^

I love cons. I've been going to various ones for ten years now, and I just love catching up with so many e-friends.

(got any pics? :D)

Not many, actually, for various reasons. I'm relying on [livejournal.com profile] tameiki1 for a good many of them, since she had the multiple disposable cameras!

Yes. Yes, I'll be looking for a one-hour photo shop tomorrow to see if they can put it all on disks. Can't wait to see what I got! Think there's some REALLY good ones in there. *drools*

*grins* I love looking at con photos, so hopefully Tiggy will repost some of them. I kicked around the idea of Yaoi-con myself a couple years ago, but SF's a long trip for me.

Honestly, a con is the best place to have a digital camera. The only place you're likely to show off any of the pics is online, and then one doesn't have to go to the trouble of scanning it.

Yeah, I know. I need a new digital camera - mine's old and doesn't have a very big memory card, and I still don't have a US charger for the batteries, so the only place I can recharge is at home where we have transformers *sigh*. Though, to be honest, I wouldn't have taken anything but a disposable to the Castro....

Dead, dead, dead of ENVY.

...and what was the MOST disorganized con you've been to? ;-)

That's easy - Wolf 359 in Blackpool, England, the year they shipped over the entire past and present regular cast of Babylon 5, bar one. That con just had Too Many People(TM).
Not a valid excuse for the Yaoi-con messes. But given that we spent most of the time yacking away with each other instead of going to panels, it wasn't the biggest deal, to be honest.

Happy to hear you made it home OK. You are very welcome, BTW. It was a joy meeting you and can't wait until next year. You are in trouble now, you've met me and you can't shake me. ^.^

I agree with your assessment of the con. For me it was *the* most disorganized one, but meeting all of you made it worthwhile.

*hugs* Glad you enjoyed the chauffeuring even with the wrong turns last night!

Oh, I had so much fun! No shaking required *grin*.

Glad you enjoyed the chauffeuring even with the wrong turns last night!

Hey, you got the important bits right, you found the gas station and the rest rooms when it mattered ;-) Seriously, the trip there was simple compared to what came after!

I need someone to fill me in. It sounds like you guys had a serious adventure after I dropped you off!

Heh. It was kind of busy *grin*. The policeman who told us it would take us half an hour to go four blocks was underestimating! We never did meet up with [livejournal.com profile] kiriko_moth because it took her party 3 hours to get there from the hotel. But there was music, and a guy stripping naked on stage, though we were too far away to see the details :-(

We knew vaguely how to get back to the hotel, but not the specifics. I'm kind of used to the London Underground, which has big maps on every wall saying where the trains are going and showing the connections. This sadly does not seem to be the case in San Fran, which is even sadder when the metro staff you ask for directions tell you wrongly. Luckily, we figured it out before we actually got on the train, but only because no train came for a while.

I am still very very very glad I didn't go with you :)

You would not have been impressed by the Castro, dear, I can tell you that.

Oh, Seattle has some imperfect weather? Who'da thunk?

The weather's been so fantastic since April, I'm almost unused to the concept of it not being. You realise the two weeks you came were pretty much the suckiest we had in the last 6 months, don't you?

Hmmm, lots of strangers, overcrowding, bad organisation, noise... gosh, why ever would you think I wouldn't like that? [/sarcasm]

Well, there was all of that - it's a question of whether you think it was compensated for by the crazy costumes and the gay guys. Some of the costumes were amazingly good, others just thoroughly indecent :-)

You did the full weekend of con and Halloween on Castro? I marvel at your energy level.

Nope, no energy level at all, sadly. I opted out on Saturday evening's entertainment, unlike some of the hardier folk!

Did you get to see anything of your sister, or was she a little on the busy side? ;-)

Oh, I got good swag, oh yeah. I was kind of disappointed by the Trigun dj selection, sadly - it was all the same old that I already have or don't want. Back to ebay it is. But other stuff - damn, did I get the hot guys....

I've got 3 big beautiful artbooks, that I'm trying to decide if I can bear to do nasty things to to scan. I probably will scan a few piccies, though I know pages from some of them have already done the rounds in a couple of places. I've also got my copies of volume 2 of Gorgeous Carat, which I'd been looking for for a while, and Gorgeous Carat Galaxy which is new out. I'll definitely do scans of a few pages from those, because You Higuri draws the most fantastically beautiful guys (with guns and chains, heh) and her art is just lovely. And there's more, lots more....

Tiggy would've gotten more of the "hot guys" if she hadn't wimped out Saturday night for the Bishie auction. She'll never live that down. *giggles* Hot guys kissing (in two and three-somes), groping each other and doing all manner of things on stage... I think one pulled down the front of his g-string after he stripped but I missed that. *pouts*

Waves . . . hey Tiggy! I really really enjoyed meeting you . . . you were such a delight. I just wish that we had more time to visit and talk but everyone was really busy and I have been feeling a bit underweather. *frustrated*

Anyway . . . am still in the SF area with Mim visiting friends. We ate more good Japanese food, went BACK to the Japanese bookstore and was tempted again and also got to see Alcatraz island. Tomorrow we go hiking in the redwoods and visit a winery. And will be ready to get home after a really hectic week.

Talk at cha soon - owari, Kat

Still spending money, huh? *g* Glad you're having fun staying on in the SF area - I'll be back another time to do the rest of the tourist bit!
