Little Si

We had two days of gorgeous weather this week (though 16F/9C colder than my last gorgeous sunny hiking day...) Unfortunately, they were also days when I had other stuff on my schedule, so I could only get away for half a day, which meant I had to do a short hike close to home instead of getting up into the real mountains. So no 5700 feet Sourdough Gap, it was 1500 feet Little Si near North Bend.

Viewpoint over the outskirts of North Bend from just above the car park.

After that, no more views until the summit, because it's trees all the way up. You do pass the Little Si climbing wall, which had some people on it.

It's mainly evergreens and swordferns, so no autumn colours here.

Just below the summit, a rocky outcrop gives the first look at the shoulder of Mount Si, which peaks more than 2000 feet/700m feet higher.

Looking south across the Snoqualmie valley - now a lot higher than the car park.

And all along the ridge of Mount Si to the north.

As Mount Si drops away to the west.

Fungi on a rotting stump on the way back down.

And a very late flower.

Chilly enough to keep a sweater on hiking up, since I was in the shade, but sitting in the sun at the summit was nice enough for a T-shirt. I'd have preferred to be chasing the autumn colours in the higher mountains, but we do what we can.
