England have them!!!!

Kevin Pietersen made up for all his dropped catches with an innings of 158. I suspect it will be a long time before Shane Warne forgives himself for dropping that easy catch when he was on 15....

And Ashley Giles made a half century - all those years when England's tail would collapse for 10, and now we have some bowlers who can wave a bat productively. Wow.

*amused* I'm probably as confused by this as you are by my football posts. :) I'm assuming this is cricket?

Correct! The Australians, sadly, had been kicking our arses for years prior to this.

The answer, as Alcina's link reveals, has a great deal to do with people's weird senses of humour and a long-running joke, which is very much in keeping with the spirit of cricket. England's most important matches are all about winning a rather ugly, useless and technically valueless symbol. Valueless unless you happen to like cricket, of course XD

Absolutely XD. If you don't know what a wicket or an over is, there's probably no good place to start! But then I know almost nothing about the scoring system in baseball and all its little quirks, so I can claim no real superiority.

The best way I can think of is to rent Lagaan - it's almost 4 hours long, but it's SUPER fun and goes by very quickly, it's a musical, and the lead character is adorable.

Any vague knowledge of cricket I have is from this movie. :-)

Well, exactly XD My dad was a cricket-watcher, among others.

Funniest moment, in retrospect, was when I went upstairs to tell my mother (ill in bed) that Vaughan was out...and by the time I got downstairs, I'd missed Bell entirely :)

Hence your post about the pointy objects XD

Big surprise there, another remarkably short innings from Bell. Way to finish the series, kid....

...ESPN sometimes shows professional poker. Five Card, 7-out, and Texas Hold-em. This I understand! (And billiards! I like watching pool. Poker, pool, and small robots beating the shit out of each other are the only sports I get.)

Pool is good. Poker's basics are straightforward, but all the variants are 'Huh?'

I'm speaking perfectly good English. It's only those who speak American who don't understand ;-)

At least I understand how the basic game works in basketball. All those weird lines in American football and the way the game keeps stopping are most odd.

Man, I got nothin'. I'm so non-sporty. I feel like I should have something equally incomprehensible to combat this madness.

I could just post something about the crazy junk we have to do in AP Physics... that would do it.

Y'all farreners're a strange bunch. ^_^.

Don't worry. There are only two sports I follow at all, and even then I only really pay attention to the big matches. The sports posts from me will be stunningly intermittent XD

My problem with physics is that my ability to cope with it runs out at the same point my maths does. Sad, but inevitable.
