On Tuesday, I hiked to Crystal Lakes in Mount Tahoma/Rainier National Park. The lakes aren't very large, and they're quite shallow, but they're very pretty. I always enjoy this hike, which I last did three years ago.

The lower lake sits in a bowl in the forest, and grows a lot of reeds around its edges.

Trail to the upper lake.

Peak flower season was about two weeks ago, but some still linger.

A butterfly on the trail. I did try to get nicer photos on the flowers, but the darn things wouldn't sit still on those, only on the dirt.

Upper Crystal Lake. As you follow the trail around, it really has no bad angles.

Flowers in the lakeside meadow.

Looking back along the trail.

August in a National Park, and if you go on a weekday and choose your spot, it can still be peaceful :-) There were two other people at the lakes while I was, though I passed a few more on the trails up and down.
6 miles, 2400 feet climb.
