Wakefield is an Australian TV series set in a mental health facility, in which the staff have almost as many issues as the patients. It has a nice combination of drama and humour that works well. It tells the stories of both staff and inpatients, dripping out more information over time, and vitally it treats mental health issues and the problems it causes for those afflicted and their friends and family with great sympathy.
The writing sometimes goes around in little loops that tell a scene from one person's POV then cut you back into the start of a scene you already saw from someone else's POV, with more information on why the interaction went the way it did. This could be gimmicky, but mostly it works well. One of the characters has a song stuck in his head that keeps cropping up throughout the series, and gives an excuse for occasional musical numbers that are taking place only in his head. This adds an element of fun in parts, but can also be distinctly creepy, depending on the context.
A good watch overall, definitely unusual and clever in some of the writing. Currently available on Hulu in the US.
