TriMax 7 Chapter 4
Apr. 25th, 2005 09:03 amChapter Four - 'Good-for-Nothings and the Blues'
Sumire's full translation is here.
Page 96. Vash is being all moody, so Wolfwood flicks him with a rubber band. So. Much. Love. XD. (Vash is smiling a little on the next page when he bitches at him :-) )

Page 98. A group of people are holding themselves a lynching party.

Page 100. Vash doesn't like lynchings much.

Page 101. Someone recognises Vash from the bullet-catching incident last volume. Vash isn't even having fun rescuing people any more, he just looks so sad.... *sniff*

Page 103. Vash hits the bar with the almost-lynchees while Wolfwood watches from the doorway. Vash is all forced smiles again.

Page 104. Vash goes on a bender, so Wolfwood gets to be all sober and responsible. That line of Wolfwood's at the top of the next page - 'Oh, well. This might be the last time. He might as well enjoy it.' Ouch.

Page 106. And the drinking goes on for quite a while....

Page 109. Vash suddenly looks awful and runs high speed out of the bar, but he's not throwing up, he's sprouting feathers again. "Wolfwood... you... really are... my guide, aren't you...." (You can just pick me up off the floor from my oozing mass of love for these two now....)

Pages 110-1. And then there's a sudden flash of bright light way out across the desert. I see Vash has been taking lessons from Wolfwood on what to do with his hips when posing dramatically XD

Page 113. And all the satellites start to go dead, one by one....

Pages 116-7. Knives sits on top of a tower, with a massive Angel Arm.

Page 121. Vash figures they have to keep moving, and says goodbye to his drinking buddies.

Page 122. So Vash and Wolfwood head off again, towards Knives.

This chapter and the next make my little fangirly heart all dribbly with the Vash and Wolfwood love. They're just so sad and fatalistic about it all - they know this is going to pretty much suck, but they have to go anyway. Poor guys....
I'm going to be away from home for a few weeks from later on today. I will have internet access, but I probably won't have much time, so can't say how often I'll be around. I do have a bit more stuff scanned and uploaded, and I might make a post or two, but no guarantees.

The rubber band bit is just gorgeously playful, with that underlying serious note of trying to distract Vash from his misery; we don't see much of that sort of thing between them, because everything's usually so concentrated around the action, but I imagine there was a lot more of this earlier 'off-screen'.

Date: 2005-04-26 09:38 am (UTC)Read Sumire's translation of TriMax 10 chapter 7 again. And then revise that estimate down some. Sad is not the fucking word when you start doing the maths.
They're the Dark Horse translations, because frankly, I'm way too old to be learning how to read Japanese.
It also helps to have a lot of spare time XD. I started buying the Japanese manga before Dark Horse got the English licence, though to be honest, even if the translations had already started, there's no way I would have been able to wait so long to see this artwork.
Knives looks seriously odd at the start there - what an entrance, all naked with the trailing seaweed hair! That must be quite a moment for Legato, yeah, given how long it's been since Knives was injured.

Date: 2005-04-26 11:20 pm (UTC)A big 'word' to that last paragraph. Wolfwood got a seriously rough deal, but at least not everything about his life sucked. He knows what he's got with Vash - he's willing to die for it, and not only that but to risk the kids and everything else he cares about for it. By TriMax 7, there's just no way to prise those two guys apart emotionally. It makes me feel really bad for Vash, because he can't ever think beyond, 'I'm sticking with you for as long as we've got, and I know that's not going to be long.' One way or another, he's always doomed.

Date: 2005-04-26 09:08 am (UTC)This chapter, like most of them to be honest, really needs to be seen. It makes such a difference seeing all their expressions as opposed to just reading Sumire's translations.
