Today we had men come and fit new windows in the computer room. This meant I had to move my desk so they could get to the window.

AAAARRRGGGHH!!!!

Looking behind the desk is very bad. But less bad now, because having to disconnect everything left me with no excuse not to deal with the collection of dust and cat hair nesting in the wires back there. There was some positive to not having my computer all day, I suppose.

Then of course when I plugged everything back in and switched the computer back on, it threw a conniption. I had to soothe its shattered nerves by unplugging all the USBs once more and letting it deal with them one at a time.

Also, the men brought the wrong window latches. I found them attaching bright gold ones to the new windows instead of the rather more subtle ones we had selected. So they have to come back another time and change them. At least they've agreed they won't have to move the desk for that.

But yay! clean back of computer and desk. Did your kitties have fun with the spaghetti wires being exposed to their little paws? :)

What happened with the old windows?

The kitties were BANNED from the room during all of this. To keep them from escaping via the non-existent windows, and later to keep their paws and tails out of the not-yet-dry window sealant. They were most miffed.

One of the old windows had developed a minor leak. It only leaked when it rained particularly hard, and the wind simultaneously blew in a certain direction, but still more leakage then one would wish from a window.

I certainly hope you made it up to them once they decided to forgive you for the slight of being BANNED from the room. *giggles*

Yeah, I can see why you wouldn't want leakage in a window so close to electronics. We're having two more garages build next to the two that were already there right now. The banging of the hammers and the painters washing their paint brushes on FH's cherished lawn this morning were...less than ideal. I thought FH was going to blow a gasket when I told him what they were doing. Thankfully, I was able to get him to move over to the landscape rocks before he got too far along. *rolls eyes*

FH would hate my lawn lol. I abandoned it to its own devices, and it's full of weeds and all overgrown. The birds and the bunnies like it that way!

The bunnies and quail and mourning doves love FH's lawn...it's the only thing that's green for miles around. XDDD

Ugh - two of the WORST things: getting windows replaced, and looking behind stuff you haven't looked behind in a loooooong time.

I remember when they moved my fridge away from the wall in one of my Tampa apartments - there were DOZENS of twist ties under it. Apparently it was the goal for many, many games of cat-hockey.

We had to move the fridge a few years ago when the ice maker decided to flood the kitchen. It produced nothing like the horrors of The Wiring!

Why is it always like this?

Though the image of the biosphere behind your computer cracked me up. NEVER MOVE YOUR COMPUTER.

It irks me so much. We had a perfectly legible copy of our window order, with the colour of the window latches written on it. Why is someone not capable of checking that the stuff they put in the van is the same as on the list?!

Cleaning out dust and cat hair good; wrong window latches bad. Why is it that whenever you have to deal with any, ANY type of home repair, something goes wrong?

Because everyone assumes that somebody else has checked the stuff in the van against the stuff on the list, I suspect. And then nobody anywhere in the chain of custody actually does.
