tiggymalvern: (sleep now)

A couple of weeks ago, I bought a sunrise simulator lamp, and I have to say, I love this thing. When I have to get up before dawn for work, I no longer have to poke around in the dark, because the light has been increasing in intensity for the past 30 minutes. It doesn't wake the SO, because it's so gradual, but I can see! I actually sleep better on those nights too - usually in winter when I have to get up for work, every time I wake during the night, I check the clock to see if it's worth my while going back to sleep. Now I don't have to do that - if the light isn't on, I can sleep with impunity.

And since I'm one of those people who usually wakes up by 7.30, whether I have to work or not, it helps there too. In summer I'd lie in bed and read for a while before I got up, but in winter it was still dark. Now I can read, because the light is there. I wish I'd had one of these years ago!

I don't think I'd like the noise, either to go to sleep or to wake to. Mine has a dual function as an alarm clock, but I have that turned off - I really hate waking up suddenly in a blare of noise, it makes me feel awful for the rest of the day. I prefer to wake up gradually, which the light lets me do as it brightens. No sound effects needed!
