TriMax 6 Chapter 1
Apr. 5th, 2005 04:15 pmChapter One - The Gunslinger
I was good. I restrained myself from scanning all the wonderful pages of Vashiness. I only scanned a few....
Sumire's take on things.
Page 5. Meryl's nightmare. Some Zazie, and a whole lot of Vash.

Page 8. Wolfwood and Meryl talk around the big winged Vash thing. Neither one tells what they actually know.

Page 11. Vash at Marlon's range. The revolver needs a service.

Page 14. Meryl remembers her father teaching her to shoot. She also remembers how she felt the first time she shot someone.

Page 16. Vash at Marlon's range again. He's shooting off an awful lot of rounds with Marlon's loaner gun.

Page 17. Marlon watches. Vash shoots until his hand bleeds and shakes.

Page 18. Vash's target with a few areas of neat little holes. And the arrogant, bolshy idiot of this little tale who gut-punches him.

Page 27. Vash takes on the heavily armoured bad guys unarmed in typical style, relying on speed, and gets a bullet in the shoulder. We notice he has the Cross Punisher behind him as he jumps in, and we wonder....

Page 28. The bullet in the shoulder doesn't slow Vash much. That's a very weird, half-crazy look he's got, gritted teeth and almost grinning....

Page 29. Meryl watches and remembers seeing Vash's memories of violence and death. She wonders if he'll still be able to shoot his borrowed gun. "Vash-san!!"

Page 33. When Marlon tosses Vash his own refurbished gun, it's DOOM for the bad guys. Meryl remembers again her own feelings after shooting someone and screams.

Page 34. All the armoured bad guys are down and out, and Vash takes off the ugly new glasses and he's just Vash again. Love that little panel at the bottom, with Wolfwood flipping out because Vash nicked his Punisher and borrowed parts from it! The sin!

Poor Meryl. She's having such a hard time here, between Vash's memories and her own. Weird that she's still underestimating Vash, though. I would have thought she'd have seen enough from his memories to realise that he's done emotional trauma a time or two before, and it hasn't stopped him shooting yet. I guess she's tying it up too much with her own feelings of guilt and regret.

Date: 2005-04-05 08:49 pm (UTC)Vash in this one looks somewhat crazier than usual. Less of the goofy and more of the genuinely cracked.

Date: 2005-04-05 11:43 pm (UTC)And, while Vash is utterly shaggable, ManicGrin!Vash is not. It's the grin - the "I's gonna eat you FACE" grin... disturbing, that.
Plus... with the big eyes and the spiky hair he looks, if not like a bug, then definately like Nny, which is also strange and unusual.
I have no patience. Are all the books translated yet? How about now?

Date: 2005-04-06 08:59 am (UTC)I'd be pretty much willing to shag Vash as long as he's still got pupils. Unlike Angsty, I draw the line at the lethal version XD. The grin is disturbing, but I like him that way - if he wasn't prone to little moments of flippage, he wouldn't be Vash, he'd just be dull do-gooder hero, and I don't go for those. I like the contrasts in him, the guy who's theoretically against violence but sometimes really enjoys kicking butt. Unpredictability is fun!

The Nny is strange, and would be most insulting to Vash if I didn't see what you mean!

Date: 2005-04-05 10:30 pm (UTC)I missed out so much so I wouldn't spoil your upcoming mangagasm. I *love* Vash when he's right on the edge of freaky, and this does it so many ways for me. He goes on for page after page....
where were you for this entire book, Wolfwood?
I think his absence this chapter was not random.

Date: 2005-04-06 09:51 pm (UTC)I love the way you say that like it's such a minor thing XD But then we wouldn't love Vash like we do if he wasn't batshit insane half the time!
