The family aren't coming. Their flight was cancelled a second time, and they've given up. No problem with the weather this time, but the plane that was supposed to fly them out of Manchester at 6am didn't make it into Manchester last night for some reason that is now immaterial. Suggestions as to how two people can consume their way through a 12lb turkey will be gratefully received!

The wonderful [livejournal.com profile] iibnf usually sponsors a bear rescued from a bile farm on behalf of her f-list, but this year she is unable to do it. So for the fabulous person herself, and her f-list, and throwing in you lot here as a bonus, I am now sponsoring a bear. I'll let you know which bear as soon as I find out.

What a bummer that your mother and sister can't make it out this holiday. Are they planning to try coming back out a little later?

Mama-san always looks forward to the left-over turkey the day after. I make turkey enchiladas and it also freezes beautifully afterwards :)

Unlike usual when we have Italian for Christmas, this year, FH decided he wanted another turkey. So... turkey it is. And the enchiladas afterwards. Anything that you usually make with chicken, you can substitute the turkey for.

And I'm sure your two fuzzy kids wouldn't mind helping you with it. ^^

Hope you and your SO have a wonderful holiday -- even if it's with less people than originally planned! *hugs*

Haha, haven't got as far as whether as they might try again yet. I think they've seen enough of airports in the last week to last them for a whole year....

I did manage to hack a leg and a breast off the turkey and freeze them for later - so now we only have a little over half a turkey to deal with in the next few days 0_0

Good luck tomorrow with your own cooking!

After their recent experience I'll bet airports are now on the top of their list of places they'd rather avoid for the near future.

Throw the remainder in a cooking/baking bag and throw it in the oven. Once cooked there are so many things you can do with it :)

Funny thing, it was thinking about cooking that woke me up this morning! The ingredients for enchiladas were going through my head and I woke up when I realized I didn't have any corn tortillas or cheddar cheese! Oh NOES! XD

Must go buy some either today or tomorrow morning :p

Happy holidays to you and your SO! *hugs*

Eek! I was having thoughts like too, but it doesn't matter so much when it's just me and the SO. Happy holidays to you too!

In another half hour the turkey will come out of the oven.
After it "rests" for another half hour we can eat. Then, the time table for tomorrow got moved up so the enchiladas will be for lunch. After that, FH's parents will stay the night at his brother's house before leaving for Arizona on Sunday morning :)

Next week FH has to go back to work so I get some quiet "me" time. *does happy dance*

^______^

Agree with the 'freeze the turkey' idea. Could the rescue center take some?

Yay for bear!

We managed to hack some off and freeze it uncooked, so that's less of a turkey to fight with in the immediate future!

Perhaps the bear would like to eat the turkey?

Commiseration on your xmas woes. I hope you have a good time anyway.

Sadly, all the bears are on carefully chosen natural diets, so donations of bear food are not accepted.

Oh, we'll be fine. Not sure the same can be said for my family, who have no tree or decorations up, and little food in the house!

That really sucks. ON the bright side, at least there aren't 13 courses to eat double portions of...

I don't know, you should see the size of our Xmas pudding! That's going to be providing courses for the next several days 0_0

You're always so generous, and you sounded so sad about the bears. I'm sure you're not the only one who has had to give up a bear this year, so they need more friends like you ::hugs::

Did you find out the name? I haven't been paid in December and won't until end of January (no holiday pay in my job) but hope to maybe get a bear in February, not sure yet.

Not yet. The website said they'd choose the bear for me, and it might be up to a month before I get the info package in the post. I guess at this time of year especially, that wouldn't be surprising.

Aw, sorry to hear that your family couldn't make it! It sounds like you'll find a way to finish the turkey. I'm curious--what is a Xmas pudding?? How do you make one?

We already have turkey curry, turkey udon and turkey stir fry lined up for the future....

Christmas pudding is essentially a very heavy, very rich and spicy fruit cake, often made with alcohol (traditionally brandy, but many other beverages have been adapted to the cause!). Wikipedia has an article for more details (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_pudding).
