I offer up the worst Trigun drag act yet.

Inevitably, since two people wanted that last awful book enough that it sold for over $120, there's now a rash of the bloody things. And another copy of the lovely 'Glamorous' itself. Rush to get your bids in now, peeps!

Gah... what's really frighening is the question - 'is Vash in drag or did they just make him into a woman?' - something doujinshi circles have been known to do. *shudders in horror at recent image of Edward Elric w/ *breasts**

They must have made him into a woman, I guess - he's shrunk a good six inches in height. Although I have seen that when he's still supposed to be Vash the guy too.... The last one I'm pretty sure was Vash in drag now I've seen an interior scan.

Vash the Big-Eyed Child is such a common feature even when he's supposed to be an adult, it gets kind of hard to tell.

I take it the dj is not what you were expecting?

Oh and BTW, I just finished reading Duality, Need and Facets. Very good, but I really don't have time to get sucked into another fandom. Uhm, I kinda go overboard when that happens! ^.^

Oh, I haven't bought this tripe, this is just a scan that was up on ebay this morning waiting to shock me into wakefulness!

Glad you liked the fics! Those three are kind of mainly about the porn *cough*.

Trigun's a really small fandom, and out of that small fandom the proportion of stuff I'd rec even with some reservations is pretty low. You could probably read everything worth the effort inside a day, sadly. (I speak for VW here, I know little of other pairings).

Guess I'm just naturally drawn to the porn. ^.^ And this must really surprise you. ^.^ It's really such a sad series, but the really good anime series usually are. *sigh* That must be why there are so many fanfic writers, trying to give our favorites some good time. Well, maybe not everyone. There is really a lot of nastiness out there and it's not balanced out by a happy ending either.

Hey, why shouldn't he? Everybody else does XD And that's probably the best explanation for this Vash I'm likely to come across!

I love the way fanon has Midvalley as the ultimate slut and nobody bothers to defend him, because it's just kinda obvious :-)

That explanation for the NotVash is me in my safe happy place, thankyouveddymuch. :) It really is the visual equivalent of some of the scary scaaaaaary ffn shit I've seen. (Which is why I laughed painfully hard, then had to go get a drink, and then poked fun at the grapefruit.)

Midvalley is a slut. His hips are made of rubber and he eyefucks Wolfwood all the way through the early TriMaxes and his name is Hornfreak.

From: [identity profile] tiggymalvern.livejournal.com
Being fair here, anyone with working hormones would eyefuck Wolfwood. I discount that as evidence of anything other than that Midvalley's breathing.

The rest of it I kind of have to go with!

*giggles* 'Glamorous' was the DJ that started this whole thing back in this thread here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/tiggymalvern/15106.html), but that time around only the cover was scanned and not the fascinating interior page with Wolfwood holding the bra - aaarrrgh! And, scarily, yes, it did sell for over $120 last time. People wanted it that badly.

Given that Vash looks male when Wolfwood is waving the bra at him, I'm assuming the 'yaoi' is correct and this is Vash in drag, but in all honesty I don't want to know....

There are some Legato yaoi doujinshi around, with Knives, Wolfwood, Vash, Midvalley - they show up from time to time. I don't rely on email notifications, I do the doujinshi search myself manually every single day.

No, I'm not obsessive at all. I swear it. You believe me, right? XD

From: [identity profile] tiggymalvern.livejournal.com
I just wish I understood why. Why do so many fic authors and doujinshi artists feel the need to take Vash, who is amazing, who deals with everything life throws at him and keeps fighting back, and turn him into someone pathetic and weak, some wide-eyed innocent who needs to be looked after? Why this perception of Vash as someone who needs to be protected by Wolfwood or mothered by Meryl?

If it was coming from a desire to take down the stereotypical heroic guy I could almost understand it, but it's not because otherwise Wolfwood would get the same treatment. The only explanation I can find is that Vash sometimes cries. Hey, so would anyone whose life sucked that much. The fact that he cries does not mean he's weak and needs to be looked after, but so many people don't seem to see past that. *sigh*

Date: 2005-03-11 11:07 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bandita.livejournal.com
The fact that he cries does not mean he's weak and needs to be looked after, but so many people don't seem to see past that.

So true! It's really too bad that people can't see past it. You know, I rather like the fact he cries. It gives us such a human connection to him, gives us a chance to further develop our empathy with him. Vash just wouldn't be our Vash if he never opened up like that ever.

And it is interesting that Wolfwood gets considerably less of the said treatment in the fanworld. Not that I could really imagine it, nor would I want to. I can just see Vash turning to Wolfwood one day, and yelling, "Why the hell does it only happen to me?!"

Date: 2005-03-11 02:03 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tiggymalvern.livejournal.com
I just adore Vash (the manga version anyway). I love him for not being the ultimate tough guy, because things get to him, because he hasn't become hard and cold after so many years with the misery. But at his core he is steel - he's coped with his sucky life for a very long time before Wolfwood and the girls came along, and he'll carry on coping without them.

I can so see Vash saying that, I really can. Poor guy! It's interesting that when Wolfwood gets the gender-swap treatment, he gets to be the slinky femme fatale, where femme Vash is wide-eyed and innocent. Blergh.

I know I'm prolly going to go to hell for this.... But i think she's sorta.... cute!

Well, yes, Vash is suddenly a women who's much much shorter (I guess 'mr. priest man' can't call her by the same 'big girl' nick as he uses with milly)

.... But ya gotta remember..... the big eyes in anime means innocence --- and can be even larger when put on a kawaii girl--- as in female vashs's sense here.

Date: 2005-04-17 01:58 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tiggymalvern.livejournal.com
She's drawn cute. She might be cute if she were some other character and not passed off as Vash. Though she'd be pretty obnoxious as a Mary Sue too....

the big eyes in anime means innocence

Exactly. Not a word that can ever be applied to Vash, not after what he's lived through. My biggest problem with this type of stuff is not that Vash is turned into a woman, but that he's turned into the sort of helpless little girl who's incapable of anything without big strong Wolfwood to protect her. ::retch::

I find the idea of this insulting to women, with its innate implication that being female automatically means being sweet and vapid and defenceless. Why can't Vash be a kick-ass woman who takes down the bad guys? Why does having breasts mean his personality changes and he goes all blushy?

This kind of thing is obviously intended as humour, and it's probably valid to say I'm stupid to get annoyed by something so frivolous. But it really does put my hackles up *sigh*.
