My almost 15 month wait is over....

I have right here in my trembling little paws, Trigun Maximum volumes 10 and 11, all shiny and wonderful and sad.

This may be the last you see of me for a while....
EDIT: The longer comments at the end of this post now include big spoilers for these volumes, so don't read those if you don't want to know stuff like that. Stop when you hit April!

Date: 2005-01-26 08:10 pm (UTC)That whole chapter of this book, in fact, is just wonderful. I may have to scan a littel more when I've translated it.

The text in the icon's not the easiest to read, with it being over such contrasting parts of the image. It works, though.

Date: 2005-01-27 09:54 am (UTC)Volume 10 is all about Wolfwood doing what Wolfwood does best. And Vash will be anywhere Wolfwood is at this point. His sticking around while Wolfwood does the mass killing bit is probably the best indication you could ever get of how important Wolfwood is to him. *loves Vash*

Date: 2005-01-27 10:49 am (UTC)I think he's trying to make it up to us for killing off...I mean the least he could do was give him some sugar before he dispatches him to the void.

Date: 2005-04-23 10:36 pm (UTC)Nightow could very easily have drawn this sequence so it was just two guys who were friends protecting one another. That would not have included multiple close-ups of Vash's hands on Wolfwood's body and long, significant stares afterwards. Nightow himself could stand up in public and say he didn't mean anything by it, and I'd have to assume he was just saying it to calm the homophobes.
What these two guys will do for one another, the way they think about one another, there's no question that it's love. If it's platonic love, it's one of the most intensely obsessive and unusual forms of platonic love committed to paper.

Date: 2005-04-24 11:22 am (UTC)I love Nightow for the way he handled the Wolfwood thing. I am an unrepentant worshipper of understatement and subtlety, and that death scene in the anime really bugs the hell out of me. I knew Wolfwood was going to die in advance, and I was waiting for it, expecting it to really get to me, and then it didn't because it was so overblown. Wolfwood dying repenting at length in a church? Please! He may not have liked the way his life went, but I can't believe he would have done it differently a second time around, because every choice he made was the lesser evil facing him at the time. What could he have changed?
Translating and scanning Maximum 10 made me sob every day for about a week! Vash isn't ever going to find another Wolfwood, someone who knows it all and is strong enough to deal with it both physically and emotionally. If Wolfwood can't survive his association with Vash, who possibly could?
I can't wait for TriMax 10 to come out in English. It should finally kill dead once and for all that awful genre of stories where Wolfwood and Vash tearfully declare their undying love for one another. *This* is the reality of these two guys - Wolfwood starting to say something the slightest bit sentimental because he's dying, and Vash telling him to shut up. These two really don't need to say that stuff, because they both already know it, and neither of them wants to hear it.
