A few days ago, I read the final volume (10) of the Petshop of Horrors manga. It left me just... gobsmacked.
I loved this series already. I loved it for being dark and twisted, for being about a strange, dangerous non-human guy living a life full of secrets and his changing relationship with a guy who starts out as his enemy (Spotting any trends yet? Nope?). I loved it for being an utterly warped (a)morality tale, with people who commit innocuous and accepted 'mistakes' coming to very sticky ends. I just plain loved it.
And then I read the final volume, where so many things happen so damn fast and it never stops hitting you with the boggle. I read some things that I'd seen in a few of the fics and I'd assumed they were clever bits of fanon, and they're not, they're damn well canon, and why the hell isn't everybody reading this and where are all the fics for it? It just begs to be written, the way everything's left, the way everything changes and dangles, and I am just awestruck. Seriously.
The anime OVAs, BTW, do not even begin to convey what the manga is really about. They're all about the morality(?) plots and not at all about the characters, where the manga is merely a beautifully dark setting for the people.
And now that I have had my say on that, I progress to silliness.
Which I guess says just about everything, really. Obsessive? Me?

![]() | You scored as Marvin Martian. "Welcome to Planet X!" You are very smart and organized. You are good at making lists and ordering things chronologically. You would rather read the book than watch the movie. Sometimes, your imagination runs wild, and you find yourself in your own little world isolated from everything else, but having an overactive imagination was never a crime.

Date: 2005-01-26 09:02 am (UTC)If I hadn't already found Trigun, I'd write Petshop. I have a couple of half ideas. But I also have multiple Trigun plots which are more developed and Petshop, however good it is, isn't quite enough to usurp them.
I guess one of us will have to visit the other again if you want to read the end then!

*wickedly knowing grin*
...some series are just ...perfect.
AND yes...finding petshop ff is difficult...VERY VERY difficult...and why more people don't has been a mystery to me for a year.

Date: 2005-01-26 05:17 pm (UTC)Well, kind of. Kind of creepy too, of course, since this is Petshop we're talking about!
If you do write fic, I *will* be there XD
