tiggymalvern: (wtf is with this shit?)

I spontaneously got no better on the tedious aches or the tinglings, so I returned to see my GP at the end of last week. I talked to him about the chiropractry aspect several people had recommended, and he wasn't keen on it for anything involving discs and nerves, an attitude I can fully sympathise with (googling reveals one case study in which 75% of people with C6 radiculopathy got better with chiropractry, and the other 25% got worse. Nice for those who improve, really sucks for those who don't.) He does recommend another form of physio instead, which involves putting the neck into slow traction so the disc slips back into the enlarged space.

So anyway, the result is that I'm now 3 days into a 6 day course of prednisone (so far relieves some of the aching rather conveniently, does sod all for the tingles). None of the nasty side effects the GP was so paranoid about though, which doesn't surprise me given how frequently we hand them out to the animals, and how few of them have real issues.

I'm seeing the physio on Wednesday about having my neck stretched. Sounds like fun! Damn, I'm tall enough without the rack XD

There was a case report where someone who got worse with chiropracty improved again with a different practitioner and basically ended up back where they started, but that doesn't sound fun to me! There just don't seem to be a large number of case studies out there full stop, which leaves me a bit wary.

The tingles I can live with - mine are very mild, I forget they're there till I think about it. The nagging ache in my shoulder, though, that's starting to piss me off now :-( I want to sleep properly!

Yours has been going on so long now, no sign of it improving at all?

which is why I don't AIM much anymore

Yeah, there's the reason I rarely did. It was making my wrists twinge after 15 mins or so, so I stopped before it went further. Glad you've largely got a handle on yours now anyway.

That sounds... hm, maybe not like fun to me, but certainly intriguing. Hope it goes well. :-)

Tomorrow I suspect not a lot will happen; it's more the evaluation consult to decide a reasonable course of action than starting treatment. But who knows? I have no experience of how these things work!

The traction move is one of the things my chiropractor uses on me with every visit, it's lovely and so effective. Whatever treatment you do with, I hope something works for you! :)

My masseur tried something a bit like that yesterday - not real traction, but relaxing all the muscles so the neck can stretch more and make more space for the disc. Felt good, but otherwise didn't do a thing. It was so good to get rid of some of the pain-tension, though.

It sounds very unpleasant! I've had something similar on and off recently, with a slight burning sensation (mostly in the thumb) instead of tingling. Nice. I'm trying rest, no wacky stretching, and to be more ergonomically correct at the computer. It seems to be working, mostly.

So, what is the problem? Slipped disk? Do they know? At any rate, good luck! I hope it goes away.

The assumption is that it's the disc bulging - it would need an MRI to confirm it, but the symptoms fit, along with the response or lack of to various things and the tests my doctor did to see what hurt.

Burning? Ow. I think I'll stick with tingling, given the choice :-( How long has it been bothering you? If it doesn't get better fast, you should get it checked.

It seems to be gone, but I'm still trying to be careful. It was weird, like I could feel that something was going on with my neck and/or shoulder and sending pain and the burning sensation down to my hand.

A bulging disk? I hope the rack helps. :-)

Yikes, not the best of odds. I hope they come up with a safe, effective treatment option for you.

I'll see what she says tomorrow and hopefully get it fixed fast! I really want rid of this before August 19th, because I'd prefer not to go on holiday with it.

Prednisone turns me into an eating machine. Glad you're missing out on that one.

It does that to some dogs too. Other dogs become drinking machines instead, and can't go more than a couple of hours without needing to be let out to pee - the owners tire of that one rather fast!

My GP was more worried about mood alterations, but frankly that's something I'd worry about if I was going to be on them two months, not six days.
