Okay, I think I'm basically done with creating my cheese-tastic LJ layout for now, so here's the open invitation to you lot - now's when you get to tell me how the colour contrast's so poor on your screen you can't read the hyperlinks, or alternately how you click on this post and go blind. Bitch at me about how the boxes overlap in nasty ways with a monitor resolution of 600x400 or using Opera as your browser. I'm not promising I'll be able to fix, but multiple complaints in the same direction will get higher priority. I aim to please :-)

ETA: Right, so far I've established that the boxes are overlying the banner in IE, even in the very latest version. Clearly the coding for the inbuilt border shifting in the layout was written with Mozilla in mind, 'cos that's the sensible person's browser XD I think I can fix this if I do it the more complicated way. Of course, there's the probability I'll break everything too, at least temporarily....

ETA 2.0: I think it should be fixed now. Let me know if there's anything else!

Yeah, I like this. It's fairly clear. It might take me a little while to get used to but, in general, I think it works.

::cough:: Well, it was never intended to be entirely tasteful or subtle XD

Myself, I wish the layout offered an option to adjust the margins between comment boxes to make the individual threads clearer, but short of starting from scratch creating my own layout, I can't have everything.

I like it! Actually, the yellow and orange make me crave a grilled cheese sandwich, but that's a GOOD thing.

Hey, I don't want to be accused of breaking anyone's New Year diets!

This colour scheme's going to clash fantastically with some of my icons, I predict XD

Thanks! Clearly you're one of those using the sensible browser, the IE folks are crawling out of the woodwork to bitch XD

The colours are coming from the banner, they work better with it. This is an IE issue, it appears, clearly you're a deviant who hasn't switched to Firefox XD I think I can fix this, given a little while....

Fixed! I think XD Let me know!

The comments layout that doesn't make it immediately obvious where each thread starts isn't my favourite either - I wish there was a bigger reduction in box size at each step. But since I don't have the Mad Skillz to create a layout from scratch, I have to work with what other people give me :-(

Hope they were worth the wait :-) I'm not completely happy with Vash, he's always a sod to colour with the coat and the hair, but I liked the way the glasses came out.

Firefox is actually far simpler and more convenient to use than IE. And it comes with a fantastic feature that automatically remembers what web pages you had open when your computer suddenly crashes. We had a power cut this morning when I was just finishing composing quite a long LJ comment, and when I got my computer back and clicked 'restore session', not only did it open that person's LJ page, it still had the whole comment cached in the reply box ::love::

At first, the colors really grabbed me, but as I looked at it longer, the more I liked it. The orange (?) hyperlinks don't seem to stand out too well, but it could just be my eyes... XD

Overall, it's a nice change. Good work!

I started with paler colours that weren't quite so in-your-face, but it just wasn't working. These are now lifted straight from the banner background - it's a bit bright, but they grew on me fast enough :-)

I'll play around with the hyperlinks, see if I can lift a better shade for them.

On a side note, I want you to know that I just preordered volume 4 of Gorgeous Carat, Gorgeous Carat Galaxy and all of Seimaden and it's all your fault, you naughty girl.

Thank you. *sighs*

Hee! If your life's lacking in Higuri You, I'd personally recommend Cantarella over Seimaden. Seimaden's an earlier work, so it's not as polished, and it's not as slashy, not that that would influence you at all XD. Though Seimaden has, of course, the advantage that it's all now been released in English, while Cantarella's still coming.

Okay, click here and tell me what the difference is between the two Cantarellas are besides about eight pages and one year?

From: [identity profile] tameiki.livejournal.com
Nevermind. They just forgot to put a 4 by the one that was put out in 2006. How many volumes in Cantarella? I just ordered six.

You really aren't very nice to my bank account, you know. Can't you hear it whimpering? XD

I believe the wondrous Cantarella ends at 10, unless I was misinformed.

Since when did every icon you own become about the small furries?!

From: [identity profile] tameiki.livejournal.com
Ten. *thud* Well, at least the first six will be out of the way then. I think a couple of those were preorders, if I'm not mistaken.

You're a very dangerous woman, [livejournal.com profile] tiggymalvern. You hide it well behind that oh so innocent smile of yours, but I'm on to you now.

Too damned late, but I'm on to your ways. >:)

Since when did every icon you own become about the small furries?!

It's just the two. They were too cute not to make into icons. The rest of my icons are still of the more perverted nature. See? :)

Ten, yeah - which at the rate of release means about another two years ::headdesk:: Mind you, that's a big improvement over Eroica, which is going to take over a decade to catch up with the 30 Japanese volumes, and makes me want to beat CMX over the head very hard.

Er, yes, I do definitely see. Though I think my eyes might prefer it if I didn't! XD

Hopefully that should be a bit better now. It only started as a 160K image which I didn't think was madness, but it's 75k now.

Why isn't Muraki there? He likes guns, right? Otherwise, it looks fine. ;-)

Makes me think of Kraft mac n cheese. Which could be eaten while reading online porn for the cheesiest experience ever.

From: [identity profile] tiggymalvern.livejournal.com
Muraki's not so much about the guns, he's more about the summoning and demon magic. Which is fun stuff, but not guns.

And besides, I've never written Muraki porn apart from the one I never finished, so that would be cheating.

Oh, I'm not saying he doesn't use them, just that they're not his area of finesse. Whereas the four guys up there are very much about the guns XD Unless you're counting words, I guess they're probably Sands' primary choice of weapon when he's given the choice.

I can't see the banner at all this morning! (I could last night when I was briefly scanning the flist.)

I looked at your layout once while it was still a WIP and it made me shudder, but this seems fairly non-offensive to me. ;-) The boxes aren't necessarily my thing, but from what I remember of the banner, the colour stuff works nicely.

Date: 2007-01-04 07:08 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tiggymalvern.livejournal.com
Most of the many colours and schemes I flashed through while trying things out made me shudder too. Very few lasted more than five seconds!

You're currently the only person I have complaining of lack of banner - are you seeing a large black background space where it should be, or boxes to the top of the page? Browser and screen resolution? Can't fix unless I can see the problem :-(

Damn, that's an early time stamp. Is that real, and if so why?

Date: 2007-01-04 07:17 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] jo-lasalle.livejournal.com
Yes, large black background space. In fact, I stared at the page for a while before I realised that it had indeed finished loading, because the rest of the layout (where the boxes are etc.) looks just like last night, when it was fine.

Time stamp - off by one hour. Seven is a normal time for me, though.

I like it. I've never been a bit yellow/orange fan, but the shades you chose are tasteful and not glaring. I like the pictures you chose; the one of Wolfwood is particularly nice.

Date: 2007-01-05 04:40 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tiggymalvern.livejournal.com
Thanks! Yellow/orange isn't really me either, but nothing else I tried was working with that banner XD

Wolfwood was the easiest pick of all, it was never going to be anything else for him. Sands just kind of defaulted through lack of choice. Vash and El were both a lot harder than you might think to find workable pics with guns at face level, but I ended up with a choice of about four for El and two for Vash. Then it came down to which Vash was easiest to colour....

Waaaaaaaaa...What a change!!! Looks so hot with the flames and the hot guys -yeah, not just Antonio, even Wolfwood and a very timid Vash XD; he and the other guy with glasses are the ones that doesnt point to us...Happy new year 2007! (a little- too much, late n_n uu)

If I was going to put the effort in to do an entire layout, I was going to do it noticeably XD

Trying to find pics for Vash was amazingly difficult, I couldn't find a single one I liked in the manga, because of the way Nightow has of drawing his action scenes with all those motion lines across them and distorted perspective, and even my doujinshi collection only gave me a couple of really workable options! And Sands never points his gun at the camera when it's anywhere near his face, so I was always doomed there, short of manipping him, which I'm not good enough with photoshop to do.

Happy New Year to you too :-)

Works for me. Vash's coat seems a little washed-out on my screen, which is pretty hi-res.

Date: 2007-01-07 05:09 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] tiggymalvern.livejournal.com
Yeah, that was artistic license, I'm afraid. Bright red would clash horribly with the other colours and make Vash stand out way too much compared to the other guys, so I had to tone him down a little.
