Planned obsolence only matters if you *have* to have the latest OS, or you want to get Apple to repair your phones.

If it's just the battery (and batteries do not last forever in any phone), the little man in the phone kiosk at my local shopping centre will replace it just fine - and has. Ditto the screen. Spouse gets my old phone when I upgrade to a modest model (never the latest). And when he gets my old phone, his old phone gets given away for free if it's still usable, recycled if it's not.

I know issues over memory are a pain, but I work around them. A lot of people live on their phones as their primary device so not being able to increase the memory is a problem, but I don't do that.

Enshittification is real, so I just work around it as best I can and keep my expectations modest. The Brother b/w laser printer is worth it for us because the library is not in walking distance (nor is anywhere else we could get cheap printing) and it was a cheap unit that just keeps going. We've had it for 8 years now. If I want colour, I have to get in the car and drive to Officeworks. Inkjets are a complete scam, and the two colour ones I've oned have sucked arse completely. Utter waste of money.

I'm not under any illusion Apple isn't as rapacious as any other corporation. But Spousal unit can use their stuff, which would not be true for Android, or, god help us, Microsoft :(
