Mason Lake

I hiked to Mason Lake on Tuesday. According to my photo files, it's ten years since I last there. That's not a reflection on Mason Lake, more on how many different amazing places there are to go hiking around here.


Paintbrush flowers among the ferns alongside the trail.


Above the treeline, close to the ridge, Mount Tahoma/Rainier comes into view.


Yes, it looks fake. Yes, it's really big. This is about 50 miles from the mountain per the crows.

View from my lunch spot on a rock. An excellent place to take off hiking boots and dip feet in the water (feet only, melted snow is cold!)

6.5 miles round trip, 2400 feet of elevation to 4,320 feet at the ridge. A good use of energy!

It's really gorgeous. And I can't even get out to Mastadon State Park to see the archaeology site where the found the fossils, and it's literally 20 minutes from my house - and two exits from my sister's house. Ugh.

Still gorgeous, though.

I saw Mount St Helen's when I took a bus from Vancouver to Seatec, and I've been to Colorado and Tennessee, but I will always marvel at mountains.

These are all gorgeous and you obviously had perfect weather, but I confess my favourite will always be that misshapen icecream cake, Mt Ranier. I love it so much :)

Sorry for the delay in commenting. I am up to my eyeballs and right out of patience preparing slides for a talk SO has to record and upload by Thursday and as usual, he is less than no help in his own ends on this. Send booze and the good drugs :(

Mountains. Feh. I prefer the water and the pictures of the lakes are absolutely gorgeous. The weather seems to be very cooperative for your outing. :)
