Disclaimer: I've never played League of Legends and know nothing about it, so this review excludes any opinion on how the series fits with the game lore.
I would never have bothered to watch Arcane - I mean, how often does something based on a game turn out to be any good? But a friend told me it was good, and the review ratings it got were amazing, so what the hell, we went in.
The first three eps are nothing special - city divided into the haves and have nots, orphaned war kids, yep, yep. But with all the set up done and characters established, episode four kicks off into something different. The politics become more complex and interesting, and as more of the central characters start crossing between the two halves of the city, the story evolves with layers of unpredictability.
I love some of the design and animation choices for this series, in particular Powder's crises and the way they reflect her art. The music is going to be a matter of taste, but it works well for the mood and situations, whether it's something you'd normally listen to or not.
Season two of Arcane is already confirmed, and after that season ending, Big Changes are definitely coming.
In sadder news, Cowboy Bebop has been officially cancelled, exactly as predicted. Everybody I know who watched it enjoyed it, the reviewers were all just wrong, but nothing with those numbers was likely to see any more investment :-(
