TV Watching
Nov. 21st, 2021 04:59 amWhat We Do in the Shadows season 3. I'm loving this show more with each season. The first season was fine and funny, but it was very episodic. The second season gave Guillermo some interesting character development. The third season takes that further, and then adds character development for the others too. It's still funny, but there are layers to it now, and I have real empathy for characters that I didn't expect to feel that for. And Guillermo is fucking awesome. The writers did good!
Archer season 12. It's Archer. It's good, classic Archer. If you liked the previous seasons, this is more of the same. But the last episode was also rather sad because you could see how the death of Jessica Walter affected it. When she passed away earlier this year, the studio released a statement saying that she had already recorded most of her dialogue for season 12, and that absence was obvious there at the very end.
The writers covered for her really well. Some of it was signposted, with a couple of characters remarking on how she wasn't there (I'm glad that they didn't just ignore her absence), and then they managed to write Malory out of the show in a way that fitted with what her character had been doing this season using some fairly generic dialogue that I would guess has been lifted from other recordings. It was cleverly done, and I think Jessica would have been happy with Malory's ending.
