Spencer Island

Now that more areas are open, I went further from home than I have in months yesterday - into the next county! Spencer Island is one of a series of 'islands' north of Everett which are basically marshes divided by tidal river channels (sloughs). Wetlands are great for wildlife, but they aren't generally most scenic of places to visit, which is one of the reasons I went, because it wouldn't be busy. They can be photogenic, in the right light and from the right angle, if you work at it, and if you're lucky, but I was right, it was a nice quiet walk.

I met a few birdwatchers and one pair of cyclists and all of them were very respectful and happy to be out.

Lovely! Where are the birdies?

The birdies were generally uncooperative. The yellow-breasted chat bounced around the bushes too energetically for a photo. The marsh wrens sang enthusiastically at the top of reeds until I pointed a camera at them, and then they dropped down out of sight as I focussed.

I did get some video of cliff swallows gathering mud for their nests, which is more a behavioural proof than an artistic piece! And for some reason, it's not showing here, even though the link is pasted in.
