I have a short interlude, safe from the SO's relatives. Two have gone back home, and one's gone visiting elsewhere for a few days, but will be back Friday. I have three whole days to be Alone! I can listen to my music (or in this case, other people's XD)! I can read pr0n! And I'm damn well going to soak in the bath later this afternoon with a watermelon Bacardi and Getbackers 9.

Emails that I owe will filter out over the next couple of days. I haven't had chance to do much of the TriMax 9 translating at all, so posts on that won't be happening just yet, though admittedly it's not the talkiest of volumes....

"List five songs that you are currently digging ... it doesn't matter what genre they are from, whether they have words or even if they're any good but they must be songs you're really enjoying right now. Post these instructions, the artist and the song in your blog for your five songs." (I've made all of these into yousendit links for the incurably nosey. This meme inevitably skews towards the stuff I've been infected by recently, so it's not exactly a representative cross-section of my tastes. Most of these came via you lot anyway.)

1. Jerk It Out - The Caesars. Totally lacking in artistic merit, utterly addictive Euro-trash retro-pop! Music for a good mood :-)

2. Eric's Song - Vienna Teng. Pain, beauty and angst, all of my favourite vicarious indulgences wrapped up in a musical package all the lovelier for its sheer simplicity.

3. Souvlaki Space Station - Slowdive. There's really no explaining this one other than to hear it. It's just about sound. It would be perfect to switch off my brain to, except my brain can't stop listening.

4. Beloved - VNV Nation (Tim Schuldt D-Fundation remix). Depressive industrial given the dance treatment. It shouldn't work, but it does.

5. So Damn Beautiful - Polaroid. Mellow, with just a slight edge.

1. Total number of films I own on DVD/video:
Um, I dunno. The DVD rack next to this chair has 103 films in it (not counting the DVDs of series). I'm not about to go and start counting through the videos in the bedrooms.

2. The last film I bought:
I think I bought Hero and Kill Bill 2 at the same time in one of my periodic Amazon batches.

3. The last film I watched:
Dog Soldiers! Fun horror cheese, with werewolves vs a bunch of squaddies XD. The SO's sister is woefully lacking in experience of good schlock, so we tried to fix that last night.

4. Five films that I watch a lot or that mean a lot to me:
Hmmm, the hard bit! I have so many DVDs and things, I don't think I watch any of them 'a lot'. I'm largely going by the films that I insist other people must see if they haven't. In no particular order:

1. Hero. Do I have to explain this? The cinematography, the artistry, the story-telling devices, and all the cast can act and most of them are very easy on the eye too. It's a unique film.

2. The Philadelphia Story. Sharp, witty comedy at its best with what must have been the ultimate cast of its day.

3. Memento. It's the story-telling device again. I love films that really make me work and think, and then make me need to watch them again right away. Primer probably pickled my brain more, but Memento is more polished, slicker.

4. The Killer. Because it is so easily the best at what it does.

5. The Man Who Wasn't There. There had to be a Coen Brothers film in here, and this one is a wonderfully twisty film noir with perfect cinematography, and enough threads of weirdness that there's no question who made it.

Waaah! I'm leaving out so many! No Leon! No Solaris! No Lilo and Stitch! So many stand-out films of their type I've had to ditch *sniff*.

And, no, I'm not tagging anybody. These are kind of old now anyway.

I don't watch the anime because Ginji's voice drives me nuts. I'm still reading the manga, where I don't actually have to listen to him whining 'Baaaan-chaaaaan' the whole time!
