It's a solid drama with an edge of black humour that makes me laugh out loud (the writers had a great ear for witty dialogue). The characters and setting come from an Elmore Leonard novella - if you like that style, that's what you're getting. It gets 97% critics score at rotten tomatoes.

Timothy Olyphant is fabulous in it as well as scenic, and Walton Goggins' Boyd Crowder is awesome too in later seasons when the writers got a chance to play with his character. He was supposed to be a guest star of the week who died at the end of the first episode, but the crew thought he was so good they changed the ending to keep him alive. But of course the rest of the first season had already been written without him, so he had to come back as regular later. And you can absolutely slash those two in later seasons, and historically given their backstory. Raylan is one of those TV cops who walks a very thin line (and sometimes fails to walk it at all).

The first season is probably the weakest, before the writers really got going with a long term plan, but still entertaining. Potential dislikes - Tom sometimes got annoyed with a few of the redneck hicks being quite so dumb as they are, and also by Raylan's tendency to be led by his cock sometimes.
