This held up. All the way through, for 6 seasons and right to the end. How rare is that? For a sequel (or in this case prequel) series to be as great as the original?
I'm in awe of the writers. To be able to keep up that quality and consistency pretty much endlessly, in both the quirky humour and the intense drama. Once again they gave us a fabulous cast, with great actors and really involving characters.
And the ending worked. I'd been expecting it to end with the full transformation of Jimmy into Saul, and it didn't, it went beyond that, so there was still something new to wrap up.
And.... (ending spoilers if you read further)
I went into season 6 really worried for Kim. Because we all know she wasn't there in Breaking Bad, and I absolutely didn't want her to die. I was sad for the choices she was pushed to make, because she was a great lawyer who loved defending people against the system, but I can see how she didn't feel able to leave Jimmy without making a total change to her life.
And Jimmy - it was so very Jimmy to slide back into the bad ways and the risk-taking instead of just keeping his head down. And it was also so very Jimmy to give up everything he'd arranged to save himself in order to save Kim instead. All his flaws and all his best qualities were front and centre in that last episode, exactly as it should be.
Now where the hell is Rhea Seehorn's Emmy?
