What I Did Last Sunday
Jul. 27th, 2018 06:05 amWe dived the Posssession Point Ferry off the southern tip of Whidbey Island last Sunday. This 220 feet long 1920s wooden ferry suffered a fire in 1979, and was then purposefully sunk and forms an amazing artificial reef. Much of the hull below the waterline remains intact, with some sections smothered in giant plumose anemones, and others still showing the timbers. If this wreck was in warm water, it would have boatloads of divers on it whenever current permits, but out here in the cold, there are no commercial dive operators visting the site, and the only way to get there is to know someone with a boat suitable for diving and who knows how to find it...
We also dived in the vicinity of the Possession Point fingers, and I've included a few shots of critters we found there at the end.
Please switch to HD, because anything else looks appalling, and even then the youtube software couldn't cope with some of the large schools of backlit yellowtail rockfish...
