Extra Special Cat Toy
Oct. 30th, 2011 10:16 amOn Friday, I bought a new plaything for the cats, in the form of a box with holes in. Inside the box are two balls, and anything else you care to add, so I put a toy mouse in there. The idea is that the cats paw through the holes and poke at the things inside. They definitely prefer the toy mouse to the balls. They like to hook their claws into it, tug it out through the holes and then hurl it around the room.
On Saturday evening, the toy mouse lost its position as favourite, when the box with holes in was found to contain a Real Mouse. Really, that wasn't the best hiding spot for scurrying cat prey to have chosen.
The SO picked up the box to take it outside, at which point the mouse leaped out of a hole. It made it about two feet across the room before it encountered a large welcoming cat mouth. The SO grabbed the cat, I opened the patio doors; the cat was persuaded to drop the mouse, and I chased it outside.
The mouse sat outside on the deck for about 10 minutes, while it decided whether or not it was going to die from the shock of it all. Then it disappeared underneath the house. I wonder if it's smart enough not to come back inside?
