A few days ago I read this newsarse commentary on the Pope and his sidekicks with some amusement. Today I find myself reading about his Palm Sunday address to the faithful.

Remind me again which one's the satire?

I don't think he could have done his reputation more harm if he'd deliberately planned to. Which shows exactly how much of a moron is claiming to represent God for more than a billion people :-(

What does the Catholic Church expect when they deliberately choose old men to 'lead' them in the 21st Century?

Gah! And the idea that celibacy CAUSES paedophilia? A paedophile... Never mind. You know what I mean.

I left the Church thirty years ago. It's hard to have faith in an institution that basically has no faith in you.

Outdated people and outdated ideas are self-perpetuating. But as long as the Roman Catholic Church can claim a billion followers, I doubt they'll find any incentive to change. Grats to you for leaving. My mum did the same.

Celibacy sure as hell doesn't cause paedophilia. I'm fairly willing to believe that paedophiles might be attracted to a profession that lauds celibacy, thinking God could help them refrain from acting on their desires - until they discover it doesn't work that way. It's probably no coincidence this is a Catholic church scandal far more than other Christian denominations.

Paedophiles can be found wherever they can be in positions of authority over children. Boy Scouts, counselors, etc.

The Church needs to step into the 21st century and rely more on psychological exams than 'faith.'

And in the Church you have easy access to children. It's a nasty combination of what you can't avoid and temptation staring you in the face.

Seriously. There's no way to fix it, so avoiding temptation is the only way to go.

I can only feel sorry for those poor bastards who suffer through life with a brain mis-wired that way, and never act on it. There are a lot of them out there.
