Shakespeare in the Park
Aug. 16th, 2009 08:56 amWe went to see a performance of The Comedy of Errors yesterday in Volunteer Park with
king_chiron,
darthhellokitty and
mamishka. It was a crazy, gender-swapped production, with all the female roles played by men in increasingly bad, OTT drag, the whole thing 100% barking mad and brilliantly funny. They had a great cast, who really worked the comic timing for the main part, and they thoroughly abused the Shakespeare with fun little asides and audience participation moments that were not in the original script....
A couple of weeks ago we went to see the same company's King John in Discovery Park, which was interesting to catch as it is one of Shakespeare's least produced plays. Obviously the serious play was not quite as ridiculously entertaining, but it's nice to sit in the sun with friends on a summer afternoon :-)
The company produce two plays every summer - I missed last summer's, I must be sure to make the effort to go next year.
