Titled just for
iibnf :-)
The film was fun, entertaining. It definitely had its moments, and Simon Pegg was, of course, awesome. It was well worth the cash and a couple of hours of my time. But now I've seen it, and I feel no burning desire to watch it again. It just doesn't have enough substance for a second go round.
Sadly, the film pushed hard on my 'Just too much of a frigging coincidence and now you've lost me' button. I don't mind some coincidence, if it's what makes a plot work. You expect it. You suspend disbelief. But Spock just happens to dump Kirk on a planet where Spock's future self is hiding out, on the same continent, within a few miles, and they just happen to end up in the same cave? That's becoming a tad too unlikely for me.
And speaking of the ice planet, what was with that stupid chase with Kirk and the local wildlife? It was like something out of Episode One, complete with bigger predator killing the littler predator, and bigger predator then chasing Kirk instead of eating the far more substantial juicy meal.
Apart from that, a pretty outstanding cast, obviously having great fun. The exception is Uhura, whose unfortunate actress had not one iota of Nichelle Nichols' innate poise and grace, and had nothing to replace it with either. The one weak link in the cast.
Go see, take popcorn, leave brain.
