Okay, I cheated a bit, 'cos of the way the page counts were going with the scans and the posts. The first two pages here are actually the last two from chapter three.
Chapter Four is called 'SHI CHOU' or 'Portent of Death'
No Sumire translation for this bit again, all my ownguesswork laboriously earned titbits.
So, the guys have hurled themselves together in a single mad rush at the first opportunity. "Tongari." "Wolfwood." And then they turn to one another and promptly start to bitch *g*. Exact same time, exact same words that boil down to "You had a godawful mess to deal with!" And they both have to admit the other has a point. And then Wolfwood smacks Vash round the head! That's an "Ouch!!" from Vash at the bottom.

And Wolfwood lays into Vash with the 'Why the hell did you come here when you're supposed to be doing something about Knives?' rant. At length and rather unflatteringly. Not exactly the reception Vash was expecting, poor guy! Finally, with Vash looking thoroughly miserable, Wolfwood apologises and admits he might have gone a bit too far....

Livio is presumably still watching all of this in that state of dumbstruck incredulity we left him in. One of the minions is awake, though, and starts with the knife-throwing. (They don't carry spare guns for when they give the Punishers to Livio?) Wolfwood and Vash take refuge behind some of the broken bits of orphanage left over from when rockets were in use in TriMax 9.

Wolfwood starts laughing, and Vash wants to know just what is so funny. "Our travels were always like this, Tongari." "Is this really a good time to be reminiscing?!" Vash feels rather strongly that they should be concentrating on solving their current mess that Wolfwood 's idiocy has led to. Down at the bottom, Wolfwood tells Vash that he has to fight Livio alone and Vash has to stay out of it.

Vash has NO intention of going along with that particular plan, and wants to know exactly where all Wolfwood's practicality has gone. He says together they can take the kids back to the ship where everyone else is.

Wolfwood: "......That's impossible, Tongari...."
And Vash really isn't liking the sound of that. "What - you're giving up? Why are you saying that?"

Wolfwood doesn't actually have to answer because Vash gets a knife with a grenade attached in his bit of wall. "TONGARI!"

Wolfwood has the covering fire. "Come on, Tongari." Vash is flash-backing again.

More lengthy stuff about just how important Wolfwood is to him. I'm impressed by how much Vash can think while he's flying through the air from a grenade blast *g*.

And as Wolfwood's running to cover Vash, he gets a knife in the leg and goes sprawling. "Wolfwood..." Vash is thinking how he came to believe they can do anything together.

Vash catches Wolfwood.

We get a negative reaction shot of Vash as Wolfwood's fingers tighten over his shoulder. Read into that artistic choice whatever you will, folks. And I know you will ;-)

And then we have the sequence with all the hands, which you've already seen, but I'm sure you won't mind seeing again, just to be totally gratuitous about it....

Wolfwood with the "Tongari!!!" yet again. He's been yelling that a lot the last few pages.

And then Vash letting go of Wolfwood so slowly, and the Looks. A Nightow lesson in how to say so much with so few penstrokes.
And Vash sees something, and starts to turn....

And since, I *cough* had to scan every single page of that bit, you get a cliffhanger now and the rest of chapter four another day....

Date: 2005-02-01 03:01 pm (UTC)Oh. Oh. Shit. The little smile and the... shit.
That expression of Wolfwood's just kills. And then the look on Vash's face as he gets it - and then immediately denies.
How many times is Vash going to flash on the "you give it up so easy" bit? Damn!
Well, it was Wolfwood flashing on it at the start of the book. That incident seems to have made quite the impression on both of them. Not all that surprising.
