Has anyone who's had the dubious privilege of fighting with Word 2007 figured out how to turn off those hideous curly 'smart' quotation marks that fuck with html? Help is no use at all, and I can't find it anywhere under 'options'. I've managed to get rid of everything else annoying, but not that.

Yeah, it could be turned off pretty easily on the old version via one of the drop-down menus. But all the menus have been completely rearranged for 07 and I just couldn't find it!

And [livejournal.com profile] saltlemonnlime's listed the fix for your version in the comment below.

Tools> autocorrect options > autoformat as you type > and then the first option about quotes? Does make sence? I did cheat and look it up on help!

That's what worked in every version for the last ten years. But 07 has taken away the drop-down menu 'tools' and moved it somewhere else random!

Click the office button in the top left hand corner. Click word options. Under proofing, autoformat, and then uncheck the smart quote button.

Thank you!!!! I looked under advanced, customise and add-ins, but proofing? Oh, the logic....

Looks like someone beat me to the directions. Before I start anything, I always go to the auto correct options, turn nearly all those off then head toward the other 'options' menu to turn those off, too.

I don't want to be told what I want when I don't want the damned thing! XD

But the really annoying thing is their users knew exactly how to turn all that crap off in every version for the last ten years. To completely relabel all the menus and move things around to entirely different places that you can't find, that's what bugs.

At least when the supermarkets move their stock so I can't find anything, I know there's a cynical reason behind it - that if I have to look at the shelves more, I might buy something else. What reason does MS have to move the furniture?

What reason does MS have to move the furniture?

Because they can! And it also has something to do with their 'superiority' complex... XD
