I'm getting there with the photos from Canada, I am!

God's Pocket is the dive resort we went to on Hurst Island, right off the northern tip of Vancouver Island. It's primarily a dive resort, in spring and autumn, but in the summer months, when there's too much plankton in the water for good diving, it's a resort for sea kayakers. And in the winter, it's empty, because winter off the northern tip of Vancouver Island...

There is nothing on tiny Hurst Island except for the resort. And it's a lovely resort, simple but comfortable cabins with underfloor heating, and really good food! The food is important.

The cabins face west, getting all the evening sun on the balcony for after-diving drinks :-)

You are not supposed to feed wildlife in general, but clearly people before us had done so, because the cabin balcony also came with friends. We called them Wishful and Hopeful.

The views of the bay at the resort were stunning in all weathers - in the sun:

As the sun broke through the clouds in the late afternoon:

Under the moon at dawn:

And obviously at sunset:

We took a hike across the island one afternoon after an earlier finish to the diving, to Harlequin Bay. There's nothing there, obviously, except sea and trees, since the island is empty.

A skunk cabbage in a marshy bit of the island. The water there is pretty peaty and brackish!

And every day, we'd be out on the dive boat, weaving through the channels between empty islands to the dive sites. Three of the fives diving days were just glorious weather for it.

We saw orcas and sea otters and other wonderful wildlife as we motored around. Our last day at God's Pocket was the stormy one, and as we left the next morning, we had some fabulous skies through the swells.

The God's Pocket trip crew on the final night (we may have been slightly inebriated).

When we signed up to go to Canada in March, we could have got any kind of weather. That three of our five diving days turned out to be gorgeous sunshine and four of them had flat calm sea, that was honestly better than we could have anticipated.
