First storm of the autumn yesterday, so inevitably our power conked out. At least we conked out at 6.30pm not 2.30pm as other people did. They closed the road down the hill, so that meant tree down or power line down or both. A bummer for the poor sods who had to go to work in the rain all night. Less of a bummer for us, giving us an excuse to go to a nice Japanese for the evening, where I had a fabulous Thai rub chicken (yes, I know, I went to a Japanese and ate something labelled Thai, but the chef had it marked as one of his specials, so blame him for the culture clash, not me).

And then we read for a while by firelight and candlelight, and the power came back on this morning soon enough to save the food in the freezer, so all is good.

If it's less than 24 hours, and most of that at night, I can treat it as an interesting novelty. It's only when it turns into days that I get seriously humped by it!

Thai rub chicken in a Japanese restaurant? That must've been interesting. Was it any good?

Thankfully, our power lines are all underground so we don't experience too many outages. Good thing your electricity came back on fairly quickly! :)

And so it begins. Oh please, not another winter like last year!

We didn't lose power, but geez I was getting flashbacks from last December! At least now we have A LOT MORE FLASHLIGHTS AND CANDLES.

Yeah, we keep thinking vaguely about buying a generator. The previous owners of the house had one for these intermittent glitches. They seem to happen several times each winter.

It was fabulous! The chef wasn't lying XD

Wish they'd bury ours. You'd think it would make sense, given that the entire state is covered in trees....

I think last year was a one-off special, but it's a bit disappointing that so many places were out with the first storm!

We still only have one torch, but who needs more? Candles are so much more atmospheric :-)

Might be time to invest in a generator? I hate the things but I've seriously thought about it after last year.

One of our neighbours has one - we've looked at it last year and last night and it's really only inertia that's stopped us from investigating.
