Lake Valhalla
This last Friday, the weather did not lie, it cooperated! Sunny all the way!
The forest road to the Lake Valhalla trailhead.

View from the Pacific Crest Trail on the way to the lake.

First sighting of the dramatic face of Lichtenberg Mountain.

And a little later, the lake appears below, through gaps in the trees.

The trail meanders down towards the lake.

Until you get the full view from the shore.

A Cascade golden-mantled ground squirrel on the shore.

And a couple of chipmunks along the trail. I'm pretty sure these are least chipmunks, though mine is hardly an expert opinion.

6 miles round trip with 1000 feet of climb on a pretty much perfect September day :-)

I do love squirrels and chipmunks. We have to compensate with parrots for not having them here.
Thanks for sharing.

The mountains around here have such adorable diurnal mammals. Between the chipmunks, all varieties of squirrels and the pikas, they're delightfully entertaining.
