Bye Bye Boog

Boog cat got worse over the Christmas period - he went off his food and was lethargic and his respiratory rate increased. The cancer had spread to his lungs, so we euthanased him yesterday. Only 7 weeks earlier, his chest x-rays had been clear. Such is the aggressive nature of adenocarcinoma. He never even got chance to start his chemo, we cancelled it because he was obviously deteriorating. But he spent his last afternoon sitting on laps and purring, which is all an ill cat can ask for.

It does suck, but such is the way with cats. He's not the first of ours to go, and there will be more. Unless we decide to switch to parrots, which would outlive us, but then we'd have to live with parrots XD

Even if he wasn't the sharpest candle in the drawer, he was pretty and I know you loved him. RIP Boog, no nasty cancers in the afterlife.

He was definitely not the sharpest candle! He was one of the dumbest cats we've ever owned, but he sweet and purred loudly :-)

I'm so sorry... it is always hard to lose a pet like that. It sounds like you did all you could and he had a happy life, though.

It is hard, but they bring us so much delight in all the years before they go, it's so worth it.

He was very happy there in the moment, but Boog was normally such a food-motivated cat, that to have him not wanting to eat was a Big Sign.

I'm so sorry - but I know he had the best possible care with you, and it sounds like he had a perfect final day.

Yami gave me a big scare on the 26th which I still need to type up in a coherent fashion. Cats, eh? :/

Poor Yami. As they get older, they cause us stress! Now if only Kuro would eat more normally, I could stop worrying about him too....

Oh my gosh! I just now read your post. Oh, Tiggy, I'm so sorry for your loss. Boog had the best care and loving family he could've asked for with you and SO and Kuro. *hugs*

Some things are definitely better not dragged out. He was still a reasonably happy, purry cat in his last hours, and I wouldn't do anything differently.
