The President of Malawi has pardoned a gay couple who were sentenced to fourteen years of hard labour after they held a commitment ceremony.

The President appears to have more political sense than his magistrate, who wanted the sentence to set an example. Well, it certainly has now.

Note that one of the couple identifies as a woman, which hasn't been mentioned much in the press.

Interesting. I'm guessing that's an issue the Malawi courts don't even recognise.

One report I read indicated that a relative has already said Chimbalanga wants to leave. The question is, to where? They'd have to travel a long way to find a country that would treat them any differently.
