Identity theft - the incompetent version

We got a letter today from a debt collections agency, saying that someone owes money to QVC, the ridiculous home shopping TV advertisers. Does anyone actually buy that junk from them? It seems they do, or at least people steal stuff from them.

The letter was addressed to my first name and my husband's surname. I didn't take his name when we got married - why would I? My own name's just fine. So the person they are claiming owes them money doesn't legally exist. But since they have our address, I still had to go through the annoying rigmarole of registering identity fraud with the Federal Trade Commission website, then filling in and printing out the form letters and information details from them to send to the debt collectors, and filing a fraud flag with the credit agencies. Really, I had nothing better to do this afternoon. Apparently.

At the very least, did you buy something good from QVC? *ducks and covers*

Once, back in the early 90s, I bought an X-Men first edition signed by Stan Lee from QVC and gave it to my friend's oldest boy who collected comic books. It's worth a little bit of change now I'd imagine. He still has it in its plastic sleeve and it's in pristine condition.

Sorry you had to go through all that trouble today. :(
