I is so a Nazi!

Apparently dear Pope Benedict believes that atheists are Nazis-in-waiting.

Even in our own lifetime, we can recall how Britain and her leaders stood against a Nazi tyranny that wished to eradicate God from society and denied our common humanity to many, especially the Jews, who were thought unfit to live.

I also recall the regime's attitude to Christian pastors and religious who spoke the truth in love, opposed the Nazis and paid for that opposition with their lives. As we reflect on the sobering lessons of the atheist extremism of the twentieth century, let us never forget how the exclusion of God, religion and virtue from public life leads ultimately to a truncated vision of man and of society and thus to a "reductive vision of the person and his destiny" [Caritas in Veritate, 29].

I suppose it would be a little much to expect the Pope to check his historical facts. He might discover that Hitler and most of the Third Reich leaders considered themselves Christians, and that Hitler repeatedly referred to himself as doing the Lord's work, equating atheism with communism. But hey, why would one of the world's prominent religious leaders bother with facts, when he can indulge in his own blind belief instead?

I'm not a religious person, but in my mind, there will never be a pope other than John Paul II and things like this only go to reinforce that.

I might have had some respect for John Paul II if he hadn't been so virulently anti condom use to prevent the spread of disease. Instead, the Catholic church under his authority consistently spread lies that countered scientific fact. I'm afraid he wasn't winning any love from me either.

I admit I'm biased and a lot of my support for him comes out of his support for Solidarity. He's more of a national hero than a religious figure to me.

Yeah, I can see how the Polish might have reason to view him differently :-)

Jesus christ. He's the gift that you don't want, that keeps on giving.

This from the only Pope who was in the Hitler Jugend?

As I recall Nazis were into controlling the breeding habits of their populace, trying to spread throughout the world, highly religious in a crusade-zealotry type fashion, tolerant of sexual deviancy among their ranks and fond of smashing outfits and insignia.

Wait a minute...

I'll give the Pope a pass on the Hitler Youth thing, since joining was effectively mandatory at the time (you didn't want to be one of the people who didn't sign up). It's the things he's said and done in the 70 years since that piss me off.

And LOL XD

Yeah, I know. XD I just couldn't resist. My great aunt was in it too, since Finland effectively said "Eep! I'm with you!" to the Nazis when the Russians leered at them. It was kind of a "I'm only here cause my mom made me come" sort of arrangement.

Once the Pope invokes Hitler and Nazi comparisons he's lost by default, right?

[identity profile] tiggymalvern.livejournal.com 2010-09-16 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm, you think the Pope is internet literate? He's obviously not literate enough to know the history he lived through!

I'm sure he has 15 year old altarboys help him with tech support. And whatever else.

[identity profile] lady-ganesh.livejournal.com 2010-09-18 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, he's got that handsome, handsome companion to help him with things. A bit older, but quite attractive, that man.

Ohhhh, I am not aware of the Pope's companion! :D

Andrew Sullivan's blog is so educational. Check it. He really is hotter than any priest has a right to be.

Ha! I so *knew* there was something shifty about you! *gigglefits*

Whenever I believe I've seen the most stupid, asinine thing ever... something else comes along to prove me wrong once again. *sighs*
