Congratulations Argentina!

The Argentinian Senate has voted to legalise gay marriage.

It is a little sobering, though, that yet another staunchly Catholic country is more progressive on civil rights than the UK. Time to play catch up, Mr Cameron.

I'm delighted that the Argentinians appear to be of a more charitable Catholic mind than the Vatican, which has just declared the ordination of women priests to be a crime of the same magnitude as the sexual abuse of children.

Seriously, they never fail to appall. Each time I think there's nothing worse the Vatican can do with their PR, they come out with a shining gem like this one for the Catholic Church's crown.

If I didn't know better, I would think someone near the top was secretly trying to bring down the whole thing.

I don't know what to say. For TWO MILLENNIA this institution has controlled the lives of billions.

For all the horrors perpetrated in his name, Jesus seems to have been a decent sort of bloke. It puzzles me how so many people can fail to realise just how much of their dogma violates the spirit of everything Jesus said.

I wish it wasn't even a state issue. Civil rights are not something people can decide or vote on, they're just something everybody should have. Let's have a federal ruling and be done, and Texas can scream if they want to.

In a perfect world, everyone would be accepted as "people" with nothing to differentiate one race/creed/religion/gender/whatever from another. All would be accepted. Even though we don't live in a perfect world now, isn't it nice to think we have something worthwhile to work toward? Maybe someday it might come true :)

I don't know why the Vatican just don't give up. It's obvious most of the so-called Roman Catholics don't follow what the Vatican says anyway. It's nice that humans can have a conscience that way.
