Is it really only 1.30?

At 4.30 this morning, the coyotes held a howling competition in the garden, and it was already coming light with clear skies. So instead of swearing vengeance on everything four-pawed and furry, I got out of bed and went to Marymoor for the weekly bird walk.

5.30am, the last of the mist burning from the fields.

Always look behind you! Ten of us walked past the bald eagle sitting right over the path glaring at us, because it was invisible from the other side of the tree.

9am. I need to learn more words for cloud types - cirrocumulus, I think?

And by 11.30am it was effectively overcast, with a few weak sunny intervals straggling through the clouds. Correct decision!

It's surprising how many birds do hang around in the dog area of the park - they don't seem to care at all. For the last week, a least flycatcher (which rightly belongs in the far eastern part of the state) has set up home in the trees right by Dog Central, where the bulletin boards are by the swimming area. Next time you go there, listen for the non-stop loud CHE-BIK CHE-BIK :-)
