Summer! I missed you!

I don't care what officialdom says, I decree that today was the first day of summer :-)

The 85-90F forecasts for today had been consistent for a week, and for a week I had decided that it was going to be a day for me and the convertible to explore the sagebrush desert and tramp around and look for birds. I bounced out of bed at 4am and hurtled through the pre-dawn with its patchy mist tendrils so I could be at the Columbia River Gorge at 6.30 and catch the chukar before they vanished into the scree for the day (I did see a chukar, so it was worth it!). I returned at 6.45pm covered in layers of sun tan oil, sweat and dust, with very knotted hair, and with the start of a nice golden tan through the factor 25.

And now that I've washed off everything but the tan (and my toes may just be clean enough to wear little strappy sandals when I go to the opera tomorrow night) and I am about to eat, I declare that it was a Very Good Day.

So summer is here, my skin will stop being dry and red and itchy and my allergy will go away, and I can just look and feel good :-)

4am!? My coworker hunts chukars actually, thankfully for them he's not very good.

It certainly is nice to see summer though.

I know! But I'd been out looking for those damn birds 5 or 6 times, and everyone told me I needed to look early in the morning, and they were right. It's true of most game birds, to be fair, I'm just too lazy to have done it before now. See how the sun motivates me!

Glad you're getting some of the fine weather that was forecasted for us but failed to materialize so far. Today was supposed to be up to 75 - which I seriously doubt we got close. Tomorrow's supposed to be 85, but I'm not holding my breath.

So, are there pictures we can anticipate from your outing today? :)

There are pics. There are pics from earlier too, actually, I just needed to gather enough to make a post worthwhile. I'll do them after today, I will!

Hopefully you should get your warm sun soon - it's not like you to be lagging the PNW!

Pacific NorthWest. And you used to live here! ::tut::

Can I just claim that it was late and the brain wasn't working? XD

[identity profile] tiggymalvern.livejournal.com 2008-05-17 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Does it need to be late for that? ;-)

Not particularly, but it sounded good for a second there, didn't it? =D

Take any excuse you can while you can XD

Well, yes, they are, but there actually aren't that many of them, they're just here to stay in a few small pockets. And it's something new to see!

Somehow, I'm not too sympathetic about your winter, since it's deeply unlikely to snow on you XD Funny how it was snowing here for several consecutive days less than a month ago....

Damn, it's going to be a gorgeous weekend, which I'll spend mostly on the couch, possibly stoned on vicodin.

But for everyone else, enjoy! And even though I can't do much in terms of getting out there, the scenery is lovely, as is the lilac-scented air wafting through the house. The first days of summer are a joy no matter what. :-)

I hope your drugs kick in soon, and you'll be able to move again :-(

I'm starting to feel a little better. More stiff and sore in the low back where I got the shot, less of the kind of pain I was having before. Fingers crossed!

Trading off one for the other, huh? Well hopefully the injection site pain won't last half as long!
