Summing up and Animal Spammage

So I've been all quiet again recently. This is mostly because I haven't been doing anything remotely interesting. I've spent large chunks of three days out of the last seven in the enthralling environs of bathroom showrooms, as a result of which we have now selected our sinks (woot! Or something.) I've been spending many additional hours researching on the internet things far less interesting than porn, and I've narrowed down the bath to just three models, the final selection to be based on tiny bits of detailed information I now can't get till next week, since the Americans have this turkey thing going on a month early.

We did go to see Metropolis last weekend - there's a new print out combining the existing footage from all known edits and negatives, and SIFF cinema put on a whole weekend of screenings. There are short interspersed screens summarising the plot of missing sections, but they aren't intrusive at all - it's a silent film, so you're reading text on a black screen intermittently anyway, a bit more does no harm. I'd never seen it before, but the SO had, and he said this version with the explanations made a lot more sense!

I went half-expecting to be bored by a relic of historical interest only, but I really enjoyed it - even by modern standards, it had some moments of fabulous direction and choreography. I can only imagine how it must have blown people away in 1927. (It must have been extremely risque for its time too.)

In an attempt to make this post of even passsing interest, I'm tagging on

These are from a couple of weeks ago - the mammal room has actually been empty on my last two visits. No more bottle-feeding for this year....

I give you the near-unsurpassable dose of cute that is a flying squirrel.

Possibly the only thing cuter than one flying squirrel must be two :-)

A warning of the wickedness of your ways - not washing the formula off the baby squirrels after they eat results in some rather bald-faced squirrels! Fortunately, as soon as they wean off milk, they regrow fast, and this batch are now looking almost respectable again XD

And finally, my dear [livejournal.com profile] evildrem - I got your package of goodness! They actually tried to deliver it last week when I was out, so I had to go to the PO to collect it. And they do work. Many thanks for the hot men :-)

SQUIRREL. SO ADORABLE.

The flying squirrels are probably tied with the baby opossums for my favourites in the cute stakes. Sadly, the highly nocturnal flying squirrels are probably also the toughest to photograph, since if they're awake and out of the bedding pile, they're constantly active, and I don't want to be mean to them by using flash. Hence a little movement blur in the photo with two.

Yay!

Good grief, how long did that take!
Enjoy the discs. Mag 7 is candlyfloss for the brain.

BALD SQUIRREL!

I've got a very beat-up copy of Metropolis on VHS, but even with the shite quality of the tape, that movie is gorgeous. Now I have to track me down a copy of the new edit!

Those are almost as cute as sugar gliders :)

They are! And they're all around here, but of course you absolutely never see them, so I feel very privileged to get to feed them :-)

That's what I keep telling myself about the bathroom, how much I'll appreciate it when it's over!

Quite long enough it seems! I've seen a couple of eps before, and I've enjoyed reading some of the fic, so I'll be curious to see more :-)

It's very clear from the new print which subplots had been left out of all the early edits, because they're the bits explained in text. And it leaves me boggled, because certain characters must just disappear from the edits with no explanation, only to reappear at a Dramatic Moment and do something inexplicable, no motivation at all. I'm not surprised the SO said this version was more coherent!

This edit's actually been available on DVD for a while now, I think the cinematic print came later. I'm buying one.

You're getting hot men sent to you by mail? How does that work? *is envious* :)

Cute pictures! The baby squirrel looks so pathetic with patches of fur gone. How is it that not washing the formula off after feeding produces this result?

OHMYGOD!! THECUUUUTE!!! ^____^

We want flying squirrels!!! We must have them!!! Insanely cute, even the patchy one.

I only had to pick out a shower door and some tile, and it took me hours of tediousness, so I feel for you having to find EVERYTHING.

Sadly only on DVD, so don't feel left out - you send them to me via the internet instead :-)

I don't know exactly what the deal with the formula is - I think maybe it sticks in the fur and the excessive grooming to remove it is what makes them bald. I doubt it's a direct effect of the formula.

But all my babies have grown up and gone away now ::sniff:: Or at least moved outside, and out of my domain. I'll look forward to having them back next year :-)

The flying squirrels are not only uber-cute, they have among the softest fur of any animal. They're just glorious to touch, like velvet. Very wriggly little bags of velvet, with hands :-)

Darn it. I thought you were really onto something there! :p
