Hawkeye (spoiler free)

We really enjoyed this. It's now my second favourite of the current crop of Disney Marvel spin offs, after WandaVision.

Falcon and Winter Soldier had promising characters, but it bit off WAY more than it could chew. The writers had six episodes and they wanted to have a plot and characterisation and the issue of who could be the next Captain America, and also deal with racism in the US and the world's refugee issues. Funnily enough, they ended up with a hot mess.

Hawkeye didn't make that mistake. They told a small, local story, that also pulled in some threads from the ongoing MCU, and they told it well. They had some lovely funny moments, and also some serious emotional fallout, and they made a good balance. It doesn't have the crazy brilliance and innovation of WandaVision, but it doesn't need it. It was good to see Jeremy Renner really getting a chance to show his abilites, which the films never gave him, because he absolutely can pull it off, and the relationship between him and Kate worked well. A solid show.
