US democracy is completely screwed until the money is taken out of it. As long as corporate interests and lobbyists can spend what they like, and campaigning for re-election requires millions in expenditure, all the US politicians will put their corporate backers first.

The solution is to impose severe spending limits for elections, then the politicians won't be reliant on huge donations, and can vote how they really think. It will never happen. The corporate interests would never allow it.
