SO: Why did you leave the doors open on the Scooby (= car)?

Me: Because it smelled of squirrels.

SO: ....

SO: Why did it smell of squirrels?

Me: Because it had a cage full of squirrels in it, why else?

Well, by the time he came home, the tactic had worked and most of it had gone. He only mentioned there was a faint whiff of something undetermined after I told him about the squirrels, and think that was his imagination ;-)
